IPL Auction 2024: Excitement Peaks as Teams Gear Up for Overseas Event in Dubai

The eagerly awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction for 2024 is set to kick off tomorrow, December 19, 2023, and promises to be an event full of anticipation, surprises, and strategic bidding. With a lineup of renowned players, the mini-auction is expected to draw attention not only from India but from cricket enthusiasts worldwide.

IPL Auction 2024: Date and Time The IPL Auction 2024 will make history as the first-ever instance of an auction taking place overseas. Scheduled to be held at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, the player auction will commence at 11:30 am local time (1:00 pm IST) on December 19, Tuesday.

Player Registrations and Auction Details A total of 1166 players have registered for this year’s auction, out of which 333 players, including 214 Indian and 119 overseas players, have been shortlisted by the teams. The auction will see 116 capped players, 215 uncapped players, and two players from Associate nations vying for the remaining 77 slots across the 10 teams, with 30 spots reserved for overseas players.

Auction Process and Base Prices The players have been categorized into 19 different sets based on their specialization, including batters, all-rounders, fast bowlers, spinners, and wicketkeepers. The auction format ensures an alternation between capped and uncapped players after a few sets. A total of 23 players, including Mitchell Starc, Travis Head, Umesh Yadav, and Shardul Thakur, have set their base price at Rs 2 crore, while thirteen players have established their base price at Rs 1.5 crore.

Team Budgets for the Auction Each of the 10 teams participating in the IPL Auction 2024 has varying budgets for player acquisitions:

  • CSK: Rs 31.4 crore
  • DC: Rs 28.95 crore
  • GT: Rs 38.15 crore
  • KKR: Rs 32.7 crore
  • LSG: Rs 13.15 crore
  • MI: Rs 17.75 crore
  • PBKS: Rs 29.1 crore
  • RCB: Rs 23.25 crore
  • RR: Rs 14.5 crore
  • SRH: Rs 34 crore

Meet the Auctioneer Mallika Sagar, who previously hosted the WPL auction on December 9, is set to take on the role of auctioneer, making history as the first woman auctioneer in the 16-year history of the IPL.
