International Hockey Excitement Returns to Odisha for FIH Pro League 2023-24

Bhubaneswar, Odisha – In a momentous occasion for hockey enthusiasts, the state of Odisha is set to once again embrace the international hockey fever as the FIH Pro League 2023-24 arrives at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. Scheduled between February 3 and February 25, this much-anticipated event promises a spectacular showcase of skill, strategy, and sportsmanship.

As the countdown begins, the excitement is palpable among fans, especially with the arrival of women’s teams from China, USA, Netherlands, and Australia in Bhubaneswar. The teams are currently immersed in their final preparations for what is expected to be a fiercely competitive tournament.

Ticket sales, both online and offline, have already commenced, and hockey enthusiasts are eagerly securing their spots to witness top-notch matches and cheer for their favorite teams. Both Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, emerging as the hockey hubs of the state, are immersed in a hockey fever that is gripping the entire region.

The Sports and Youth Services Department, in collaboration with various government departments and Hockey India, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a seamless and memorable experience for teams and fans alike. Meticulous planning has been undertaken to cover all aspects, including infrastructure, safety, transport, accommodation, hospitality, and the overall conduct of the event.

Expressing his anticipation for the event, Vineel Krishna, Secretary of the Sports and Youth Services Department, stated, “With one year to go for the Hockey Men’s World Cup, it gives me immense pleasure that once again we will have an international hockey tournament at both our venues, Kalinga Hockey Stadium, Bhubaneswar, and Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium, Rourkela.”

He continued, “The Women’s team not only marks their comeback to the Pro League but also makes their debut in Rourkela. These matches will be crucial for the Men’s team in their preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics. I’m confident that they will give their best and enthral the passionate hockey fans of Odisha. I also extend my warm welcome to the visiting teams, their players, officials, and fans from across the globe. I’m sure they will have a memorable experience in Odisha.”

The mini-tournament will feature both the Indian Women’s and Men’s Hockey Teams. The Women’s Hockey Team, led by Savita, will make their comeback to the FIH Pro League, facing off against the USA, Netherlands, China, and Australia at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar from February 3 to 9. They will then debut at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela from February 12 to 18.

Meanwhile, the Men’s team will engage in home matches against Netherlands, Spain, Australia, and Ireland in Bhubaneswar from February 10 to February 16. They will subsequently move to Rourkela for their return fixtures scheduled between February 19 to 25 February.
