Indian Pacer Mohammed Shami Receives Arjuna Award from President Murmu for Stellar Performance

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, a key contributor to the national cricket teams’ runner-up finishes in the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup, has been honored with the prestigious Arjuna Award. The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu, recognizing Shami’s outstanding performance on the cricket field.

Shami’s standout display in the ODI World Cup, where he secured an impressive 24 wickets in just seven matches, played a crucial role in earning him this esteemed recognition. The fast bowler’s ability to deliver in high-pressure situations and contribute significantly to the team’s success did not go unnoticed.

The award ceremony, held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, was shared by Shami on his social media platforms. He expressed gratitude to his coach, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), teammates, family, staff, and fans for their unwavering support throughout his cricketing journey.

In addition to Mohammed Shami, other notable recipients of the Arjuna Award in 2023 include wrestler Antim Panghal, boxer Mohammad Hussamuddin, and the badminton duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. These athletes were also honored with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award for their remarkable achievements in 2023.
