India Strengthens 2nd Position in World Test Championship with Series-Sealing Victory Over England

Ranchi, February 26, 2024 – In a thrilling encounter in Ranchi, India emerged victorious in the fourth Test against England, chasing down 192 runs with five wickets in hand. With this win, India not only secured the series with a 3-1 lead but also strengthened their position in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, holding the second spot.

The match hung in the balance when India, needing 72 runs, lost key wickets in the form of Ravindra Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan in quick succession. However, the young duo of Dhruv Jurel and Shubman Gill displayed remarkable calmness and composure, steering India to a hard-fought victory.

This win marks India’s fifth triumph in the current WTC cycle, having played eight matches, and they currently boast a Points Table Percentage (PCT) of 64.58. On the other hand, England’s woes continue as they find themselves in the eighth position with a PCT of 21.87, having suffered their fifth loss in nine outings during this cycle. The defeat significantly hampers England’s chances of reaching the top two in the WTC standings.
