FC Barcelona Defender Marcos Alonso Set for Surgery on Lumbar Issues

In a recent announcement, FC Barcelona confirmed that Spanish defender Marcos Alonso is scheduled to undergo surgery next week to address lumbar region problems that have kept him out of action in recent weeks. The Catalan club revealed that further updates on Alonso’s health will be provided after the surgery.

“Next week, Marcos Alonso is to undergo surgery on the problems in the lumbar region of his back that have kept him sidelined in recent weeks. The club will be making an announcement immediately after to report on how the operation has gone,” stated FC Barcelona in an official statement.

The announcement also highlighted Alonso’s contributions to the club since joining in 2022. The left-back has participated in seven games this season, starting four of them and accumulating 301 minutes of playing time. In total, Alonso has made 44 appearances in the Blaugrana jersey, scoring three goals.

Despite Alonso’s individual achievements, FC Barcelona has been struggling in their recent matches, securing only one victory in their last five fixtures. In a club-friendly match against Mexico’s CF America on December 22, Barcelona faced a 3-2 defeat.

In La Liga standings, Barcelona currently occupies the fourth position with 38 points, having won 11 of their 18 league games. Their next challenge in the Spanish league is against Las Palmas.

As fans await updates on Marcos Alonso’s surgery and recovery, FC Barcelona aims to overcome its recent setbacks and regain momentum in upcoming fixtures.
