Ekaterina Makarova Eyes Double Triumph at $40,000 IWTC ITF World Tennis Tour Women’s Championships

Navi Mumbai : In a stellar display of skill and determination, top-seeded Ekaterina Makarova from Russia has positioned herself for a double crown at the IWTC-2023 ITF World Tennis Tour $40,000 Tournament, a remarkable initiative by Shri Ganesh Naik. The event, organized by the Navi Mumbai Sports Association in collaboration with the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) under the auspices of the ITF, AITA, is currently unfolding at the Ganesh Naik Tennis Complex in Vashi.

Makarova’s journey to the singles final was marked by a hard-fought victory in the semifinals against the sixth-seeded Diana Marcinkevica from Latvia. The match saw Makarova triumphing with a scoreline of 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, showcasing her resilience on the court.

In the upcoming singles final, Ekaterina Makarova is set to face off against the second-seeded Japanese player, Moyuka Uchijima. Uchijima secured her spot in the final by overcoming her compatriot Misaki Matsuda with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Adding to her impressive run, Makarova claimed victory in the doubles category alongside Latvian partner Kamilla Bartone. The duo emerged triumphant against the Japanese pair Funa Kozaki and Misaki Matsuda with a closely contested score of 6-3, 1-6, 10-7.

The doubles winners will be rewarded with valuable points, and the winning pair will receive a prize of $2,230, while the runners-up will take home $1,115.

The prizes were presented during a ceremony attended by Mr. Sunder Iyer, Honorary Secretary of MSLTA, and tournament director Dr. Dilip Rane.
