Ebadot Hossain’s World Cup Participation Hangs in the Balance as Injury Persists

Bangladesh’s fast bowler Ebadot Hossain is facing a race against time to regain his fitness before the upcoming World Cup, which is set to take place in India from October 5. His uncertain condition has raised questions about his availability for the 50-over global tournament.

Officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have indicated that they are considering sending Ebadot abroad for a second opinion on his knee injury, which has been a cause for concern. This injury forced him to withdraw from the Asia Cup, as his rehabilitation did not yield the expected recovery.

Ebadot’s injury, an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, was sustained during an ODI series against Afghanistan last month. With his condition not improving as anticipated, the BCB is exploring all options to determine the best course of action for his recovery.

Kiron Thoms, the newly-appointed Australian physio and rehabilitation manager for Bangladesh, is reportedly accompanying Ebadot for a consultation in England during the first week of the upcoming month. The team management and board are eagerly awaiting the outcome of this check-up session.

“If he requires surgery, he will almost certainly miss the World Cup,” a BCB official shared. The complexity of the situation has placed the team management in a challenging spot, as they grapple with the possibility of Ebadot’s absence from the significant global tournament.

The cricket board’s commitment to finding a solution is evident, as they intend for Ebadot to consult with a specialist who specializes in knee problems. “The cricket board is treating this matter with the utmost seriousness,” the official emphasized.

While there is hope that Ebadot’s issues can be resolved in time for the World Cup, challenges persist. “Though there’s a chance he could manage it with two to three more months, time is a luxury we lack. The World Cup squad announcement is imminent, and the coach needs clarity on his condition to shape his strategies accordingly,” the official added.

Ebadot Hossain, who made his ODI debut last year, has represented Bangladesh in 12 ODIs. The decision about his participation in the World Cup is eagerly anticipated, not only by fans but also by the team and management who are working diligently to ensure the best possible outcome for the talented fast bowler.
