Cricket’s High-Stake Game: LED Stumps Worth a Fortune at ODI World Cup

The approaching ODI World Cup 2023 has cricket enthusiasts buzzing with excitement. While they eagerly await thrilling matches and stunning performances, there’s another aspect of the game that might leave them astonished—the price of LED stumps adorning the wickets. Surprisingly, these high-tech stumps outshine the cost of not just one but ten Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max devices.

Hosted by India this year, the ODI World Cup 2023 promises to be a spectacle of high-end gear, fresh jerseys, and, notably, ultra-expensive cricket stumps.

LED stumps and bails were introduced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) years ago, yet the staggering price of these wickets remains largely unknown to many. Fans might recall former Indian captain MS Dhoni nonchalantly grabbing the stumps after each match, but the price tag attached to these stumps is bound to be a revelation.

As per reports by News18 and various sports media outlets, ICC typically utilizes wicket stumps and bails produced by Zing. These wickets are equipped with touch-sensitive technology and boast cameras fitted within the bails to assist umpires in making accurate decisions.

The LED stumps and bails set to grace the ODI World Cup 2023 are anticipated to fall within the price range of USD 40,000 to 50,000, translating to approximately Rs 32-41 lakh in Indian currency. Apart from Zing, StumpVision and Intelliconn also offer these wicket systems, with prices exceeding Rs 10 lakh.

While the exact cost may fluctuate due to factors such as location and availability, it is anticipated that the wickets featured in the ODI World Cup 2023 will surpass the 10-12 lakh rupee mark, making them more expensive than ten Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max phones.

The hallmark of these LED stumps used in international cricket lies in their touch-sensitive nature. They illuminate at the slightest contact, simplifying the umpires’ task significantly. Moreover, these cricket stumps are equipped with built-in cameras and microphones capable of capturing various angles of the game, intensifying the excitement of the cricket world cup.

The ODI World Cup 2023 is poised to kick off on October 5 in India, promising an extraordinary display of talent and cutting-edge technology.
