Captain’s Courage: Shakib Al Hasan’s Inspirational World Cup Journey Comes to an End

Bangladesh’s cricket captain, Shakib Al Hasan, has been forced to bid farewell to the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 due to a left index finger injury. The unfortunate incident occurred during Bangladesh’s penultimate league stage match against Sri Lanka, where Shakib sustained the injury while batting.

Post-game, an X-ray examination confirmed a fracture in the left PIP joint, ultimately sidelining Shakib for Bangladesh’s last World Cup match against Australia in Pune. National Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan shed light on the injury, revealing that Shakib had endured the injury early in his innings but persevered with the help of taping and pain relief.

The recovery process is anticipated to take approximately three to four weeks, and Shakib is set to return to Bangladesh for rehabilitation.

Despite the setback, Shakib’s contribution to the team was exceptional. In the same match where he suffered the injury, he delivered a match-winning performance, scoring 82 runs from 65 balls, featuring 12 fours and two sixes. Additionally, he displayed his prowess with the ball, claiming figures of 2/57. His outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
