Bolt’s Legacy Stands Firm: Sprint Icon Unfazed by Record-Chasing Athletes

In a recent interview with World Athletics, legendary sprinter Usain Bolt expressed his nonchalant attitude towards the pursuit of his world records, asserting that he is “not worried about them.” Bolt, who retired from athletics in 2017, still holds the 100m world record of 9.58 and the 200m world record of 19.19, both set at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Germany.

Bolt’s Unwavering Confidence

Despite the speculation and attempts by current athletes to break his records, the eight-time Olympic champion remains confident. When asked which of his records might fall first, Bolt replied with a dismissive “Not worried about none of them.” This statement comes as athletes like Noah Lyles, Ferdinand Omanyala, and Fred Kerley aim to challenge Bolt’s remarkable achievements.

Challenges in Breaking the Records

Noah Lyles, the current world champion in both the 100m and 200m events, targeted Bolt’s 200m record in 2023 but fell short, with his 19.31 national record ranking as the third-fastest time ever. While athletes continue to aim for Bolt’s records, the sprint star believes that the 100m record will be more challenging to break.

“I think the 100m’s going to be harder (to break) because it’s quicker, and if you make a mistake during the race you’re not going to get it. It’s a lot more technical, so I think maybe the 100m’s going to go last,” Bolt explained.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Reflecting on his record-setting achievements, Bolt shared an anecdote about a bet he made with his coach and masseuse. Confident in his form during the 2009 season, Bolt predicted he would break the world record. His remarkable speed and technical prowess allowed him to fulfill that prediction, creating a legacy that remains unmatched in the world of sprinting.

As the debate on whether today’s athletes can surpass the legendary Bolt continues, the sprinter’s confidence remains unshaken.
