New Delhi, 19th July 2023: The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, Chaudhry Muhammad Zaka Ashraf, will take the center stage in Lahore as the highly anticipated schedule and coveted trophy of the 2023 Asia Cup edition are unveiled. This much-awaited event will occur at 7:15 PM (Pakistan time) at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore. Cricket enthusiasts from around the globe can catch the entire event through a live stream on PCB’s official YouTube channel.
After months of anticipation, the complete schedule of Asia’s premier tournament will be revealed. As per the initially agreed hybrid model, Pakistan was set to host four matches, while the remaining nine games were scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka. India, on the other hand, would compete in all their matches, including the knockout stages if they qualify, in Sri Lanka.
Speculations arose regarding potential changes to the hybrid model when Zaka Ashraf assumed the role of Chairman. However, both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) have affirmed that the original arrangement remains unchanged.
During the ICC annual conference in Durban, ACC Chairman Jay Shah and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had a meeting with Zaka Ashraf, where they discussed the Asia Cup and the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India later this year.
There were reports in the Pakistan media suggesting that Jay Shah had accepted an invitation from Zaka Ashraf to visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup fixtures. However, both Jay Shah and Arun Dhumal, who was also present in Durban for the ICC Chief Executives Meet (CEC), refuted these claims, stating that they were completely false.
The discussion between Jay Shah and Zaka Ashraf also touched upon the 50-over World Cup, and it appears that there are no surprises in store regarding the schedule. Pakistan is scheduled to play their fixture against India in Ahmedabad.
