Chandrayaan-3 Successfully Leaves Earth’s Orbit, Heads Towards Moon: ISRO

Chandrayaan-3 Mission

In a momentous achievement, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully injected the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into the translunar orbit. The spacecraft has now completed its orbits around the Earth and is embarking on its journey towards the Moon, according to the national space agency headquartered in Bengaluru.

The crucial step in this ambitious lunar mission was the successful perigee-firing performed at ISTRAC (ISRO Telemetry, Tracking, and Command Network), which allowed ISRO to inject the spacecraft into the translunar orbit.

As the spacecraft advances towards the Moon, the Lunar-Orbit Insertion (LOI) is planned for August 5, 2023. This significant milestone will mark the spacecraft’s arrival at the Moon’s vicinity.

An ISRO official informed PTI that after the trans-lunar injection (TLI) conducted on Tuesday, the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft departed from Earth’s orbit and is now following a trajectory that will lead it to the proximity of the Moon. This critical maneuver has placed the spacecraft on a ‘lunar transfer trajectory,’ signifying the beginning of its journey towards our celestial neighbor.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission is a continuation of India’s space exploration endeavors and is part of the nation’s commitment to furthering its presence in lunar research and discovery. The mission aims to conduct a soft landing of the lander on the lunar surface, and ISRO has set its sights on achieving this feat on August 23, 2023.

The success of Chandrayaan-3’s journey towards the Moon is the result of meticulous planning, dedication, and expertise exhibited by ISRO’s scientists and engineers. The nation eagerly anticipates the momentous occasion of the lunar-orbit insertion and the ultimate soft landing on the Moon’s surface.
