Sultan Al Neyadi, a United Arab Emirates (UAE) astronaut currently on a six-month space mission to the International Space Station (ISS), has shared a captivating view of the Himalayas from space. The astronaut took to Twitter to post images of the snow-covered Himalayan mountains, referring to them as “iconic landmarks of our planet’s rich nature.”

In the images, the majestic mountains are adorned with clouds, creating a mesmerizing scene that has captivated internet users worldwide. Sultan Al Neyadi’s post quickly went viral on social media platforms, garnering over 44,000 views and more than six hundred likes since being shared.

ISRO Successfully Conducts Parachute Deployment Tests for Gaganyaan Mission

In its continuous efforts towards the Gaganyaan mission, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has achieved successful parachute deployment tests that are integral to ensuring the safety of astronauts during re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere.

Drogue parachutes, designed to slow down and stabilize rapidly moving objects, play a crucial role in reducing the crew module’s velocity and maintaining stability during re-entry in the planned Gaganyaan human space flight mission. ISRO’s Thiruvananthapuram-based Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) collaborated with Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE)/DRDO to carry out a series of Drogue Parachute Deployment Tests at the Rail Track Rocket Sled (RTRS) facility of the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory in Chandigarh from August 8 to 10.

The tests involved pyro-based devices known as mortars, which eject the drogue parachutes into the air upon command. These parachutes, boasting a diameter of 5.8 meters, utilize a single-stage reefing mechanism to control their descent, minimizing canopy area and opening shock. ISRO’s successful parachute deployment tests mark another significant step toward the realization of the ambitious Gaganyaan mission, which aims to safely transport astronauts to and from space.
