Bengaluru, July 3 (UNI) A day after NCP leader Ajit Pawar joined the Eknath Shinde led Maharashtra government, former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Monday called it a “shocking development” and expressed fear about who would emerge as Karnataka’s Ajit Pawar.
Kumaraswamy did not take any name as to who he thought could be the Ajit Pawar of the southern state.
“After yesterday’s shocking development in Maharashtra about Ajit Pawar’s decision, now I am fearing who will emerge as the next Ajit Pawar in Karnataka. We are actually waiting for that,” the senior JDS leader said here.
He made these remarks while replying to a query on Congress government’s guarantees mentioned in Karnataka Governor Thawaarchand Gehlot’s speech copy addressing the joint assembly session.
On Sunday, Ajit Pawar split the Nationalist Congress Party and joined the NDA government of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Maharashtra. Pawar has been made Deputy Chief Minister, while eight other NCP MLAs also took oath as ministers in Mumbai.
Pawar rebelled days after his uncle and party chief Sharad Pawar made his daughter Supriya Sule the working president of the party. Ajit Pawar had also wanted to resign as the leader of the opposition and take up a top organisational role, but the party executive council asked him to wait.
Kumaraswamy said in the last one-and-a-half months, the Congress government has been saying that it would take action against corruption, but nothing concrete has been done. “Therefore, the steps taken by the government to curb corruption as mentioned in the Governor’s speech have not materialised,” he said.
He said because of the “unworkable guarantees”, the Congress government sooner than later would be in ICU and dependent on a ventilator.
