Digital Domain Tussle: BJP Secures ‘Donate for Desh’ Web Domain, Redirects to Its Own Page

In a twist of digital domain maneuvering, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has claimed victory over the ‘Donate for Desh’ web domain, redirecting visitors to its own donation page. The domain, initially left unclaimed by the Congress party, became a strategic asset for the BJP, highlighting the significance of online presence in modern political campaigns.

While Congress launched its ‘Donate for Desh’ crowdfunding campaign without securing the corresponding web domain, BJP swiftly booked ‘DonateforDesh.org,’ leading users to their donation platform upon clicking the link. Adding to the intrigue, OpIndia, another website, also secured related domains under the campaign name, redirecting traffic to their donation pages.

In contrast, Congress opted for a different domain, https://donateinc.net/, to receive contributions, showcasing a distinct approach to online fundraising.

On the campaign launch, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized the party’s historic step of seeking public donations, breaking from reliance on traditional funding sources. Kharge drew parallels with Mahatma Gandhi, stating, “Mahatma Gandhi also took donations from the public during the freedom struggle.”

The incident underscores the importance of securing domain names promptly in the digital age, where a domain is the virtual address for internet users to access a website.
