Woman in Wheelchair Faces Humiliation at Kolkata Airport: Alleged Insensitivity during Security Clearance

A differently-abled woman, Arushi Singh, recently shared a distressing encounter at Kolkata airport on social media, accusing a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel of asking her to stand three times during security clearance.

Arushi Singh, a law student, vented her frustration on X, detailing the repeated requests to stand despite explaining her disability. The incident has ignited criticism against the CISF personnel’s lack of empathy and proper handling of passengers with disabilities.

Ms. Singh, in her social media post, expressed shock and anger, raising questions about the airport’s failure to learn from past incidents involving mistreatment of passengers with disabilities.

As of now, there have been no official statements from either CISF or Kolkata airport addressing the alleged incident.

This unfortunate episode highlights the pressing need for increased sensitivity and comprehensive training for airport security personnel in handling passengers with disabilities.
