Transforming Lives: PM Modi Launches ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ for Aspiring Blocks

In a significant move towards transforming the lives of people living in India’s aspirational blocks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch the ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ programme. The launch ceremony will take place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Saturday, marking the commencement of a week-long initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of life in these blocks.

Programme Overview: The ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ programme is closely aligned with the nationwide Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP), which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi in January of this year. The ABP was introduced to drive development and progress in areas that have historically faced challenges.

The ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ initiative will be implemented across 500 aspirational blocks spanning 329 districts throughout India. It serves as a consolidation of the outcomes and insights gathered during ‘chintan shivirs’—brainstorming sessions held at village and block levels across the country. These sessions aimed to facilitate the effective implementation of the ABP and craft robust strategies for individual blocks.

Key Development Themes: During the week-long ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ programme, each day will be dedicated to a specific development theme. These themes include:

  1. Sampoorna Swasthya (Holistic Health)
  2. Suposhit Pariwaar (Healthy Family)
  3. Swachhta (Cleanliness)
  4. Krishi (Agriculture)
  5. Shiksha (Education)
  6. Samridhi Diwas (Prosperity Day)

Grand Finale: The grand finale of the programme, scheduled for October 9, will serve as a celebration of the collective efforts and achievements made throughout the week. This day, known as ‘Sankalp Saptaah – Samavesh Samaroh,’ will commemorate the dedication and commitment shown during the initiative.

Inaugural Event: The inaugural event at Bharat Mandapam will see approximately 3,000 panchayat and block-level representatives and functionaries in attendance. Additionally, around two lakh individuals from diverse backgrounds will join virtually, demonstrating widespread support for this transformative endeavour.

The ‘Sankalp Saptaah’ programme underlines the government’s commitment to improving governance and the overall quality of life in aspirational blocks. It represents a crucial step towards realizing the goals set by the Aspirational Blocks Programme, ensuring that the benefits of development reach even the remotest corners of the nation.
