Terrorist Ambush Leaves Five Security Personnel Injured in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch District

In a brazen ambush, five security personnel sustained injuries when terrorists opened fire on two vehicles, including one belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF), in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

The attack unfolded near Shashidhar during the evening hours as the vehicles were en route to Sanai Top in the Surankote area. Among the injured, two individuals are reported to be in critical condition and have been promptly hospitalized. In response to the incident, swift reinforcement has been deployed, and ongoing counter-terrorism operations are underway to neutralize the threat posed by the perpetrators.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has confirmed the safety of its convoy that came under attack near Shahsitar. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the ambush and identify those responsible for the assault. This incident marks the first significant attack on the armed forces in the region this year, following a series of similar events witnessed last year.

The district of Poonch falls within the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency, slated for the sixth phase of elections on May 25. The incident underscores the persistent security challenges faced by the region and serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
