In a splendid showcase of automotive history, Tata Steel hosted the third edition of the Vintage and Classic Car & Bike Rally in Jamshedpur on February 25. The event, held as part of the 185th Founder’s Day celebration, paid tribute to the visionary founder of the Tata Group, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, and featured a stunning lineup of over 160 vintage cars and bikes spanning from the 1920s to the 1980s.
The rally, flagged off by Tata Steel executives Chanakya Chaudhary, Probal Ghosh, and Chaitanya Bhanu, commenced at Gopal Maidan and covered significant landmarks such as Bharucha Mansion, Jubilee Park, United Club, Sir Dorabji Tata Park, Keenan Stadium, and St. George’s Church. The 23km journey concluded at the United Club, where an enthusiastic audience had gathered to witness the prize distribution ceremony.
Tata Steel’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage was evident in Chaudhary’s remarks during the ceremony. He emphasized the importance of events like the Jamshedpur Vintage and Classic Car & Bike Rally, noting that they not only showcase rare and beautiful machines but also contribute to the celebration of history and culture.
The overall winners of the rally were Sourav Roy, owner of the Mercury 8 sedan, in the car category, and Hermit Singh Bhamra, proud owner of a Triumph 3HW, in the bike category. The judges for the event included Prithvi Nath Tagore, Nitin Sreshtha, Saikat Dutta, and Harjit Singh Dhanjal.
The rally also witnessed the participation of the Super Biker’s club of Jamshedpur, displaying 16 bikes, including iconic brands like Harley-Davidson, BMW, Ducati, and Triumph. This year’s inclusion of the Super Biker’s club adds a dynamic and contemporary touch to an event steeped in history.
Started in 2022 as part of Tata Steel’s initiatives to conserve and nurture India’s sports, arts, and culture, the Jamshedpur Rally aims to become a prominent event not only in the city during Founder’s Day celebrations but also throughout India. The increasing popularity, marked by a growing number of participating vehicles in each edition, underscores the rally’s success in resonating with stakeholders.
Jamshedpur, with its rich cultural history and heritage, stands as a fitting backdrop for an event that not only celebrates prized vintage cars and bikes but also promotes the cultural richness and history of the city.
