Sudarshan Setu: PM Modi Unveils India’s Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge Connecting Okha and Beyt Dwarka

In a momentous occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Sudarshan Setu,’ India’s longest cable-stayed bridge in Dwarka, Gujarat, today. The bridge, connecting Okha and Beyt Dwarka island, comes to fruition after years of planning and construction, symbolizing a significant stride in the development of the region.

A Bridge of Connectivity: Linking Old and New Dwarka

Built at a cost of ₹979 crore, Sudarshan Setu spans 2.3 kilometers, boasting four lanes and measuring 27.20 meters in width. The bridge includes 2.50 meter-wide footpaths on both sides, showcasing a unique design with footpaths adorned with verses from the Bhagavad Gita and images of Lord Krishna. Formerly known as the ‘Signature Bridge,’ it has been officially named ‘Sudarshan Setu’ – Sudarshan Bridge, emphasizing its cultural and historical significance.

Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for this monumental project in October 2017, underlining its role in connecting the old and new facets of Dwarka. Beyt Dwarka, situated near Okha port, stands approximately 30 km from Dwarka town, housing the revered Dwarkadhish temple dedicated to Lord Krishna.

Inauguration and Spiritual Connection: PM Modi’s Delight in Sudarshan Setu

Expressing his delight, PM Modi stated, “Delighted to inaugurate Sudarshan Setu today – a bridge that connects lands and people. It stands vibrantly as a testament to our commitment to development and progress.” Before officially opening the bridge, he visited the Dwarkadhish temple, offering prayers and emphasizing the spiritual significance of the region.

Healthcare Milestone: AIIMS Inaugurations Across India

Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi is set to open Gujarat’s first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot. Additionally, he will virtually inaugurate four other newly-built AIIMS in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. These five super-specialty hospitals, constructed by the Centre at a cost of ₹6,300 crore, represent a significant step towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure across the nation.
