Gadag, Karnataka – The Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Karnataka has suspended 38 medical students following the circulation of a viral reel shot inside the hospital premises. The videos depict three female students dancing to a Bollywood song, while more than 10 students are seen enacting the lyrics of a Kannada song.
Dr Basavaraj Bommanahalli, the Director of GIMS, reportedly took swift action by issuing the suspensions and warning of severe consequences if such incidents were to occur in the future. This move is part of the institute’s commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring the proper conduct of students within the medical facility.
This incident recalls a similar occurrence in August 2023 when 11 Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) students from the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubli faced suspension for creating and sharing offensive reels about nurses on Instagram. In that instance, a student dressed as a nurse performed a provocative dance to a Kannada song, leading to disciplinary actions.
The latest incident at GIMS highlights the importance of upholding professional conduct within medical institutions and serves as a reminder of the consequences for inappropriate behavior by students.
