Section 144 Imposed in Shivamogga, Karnataka After Stone-Pelting Incident in Bengaluru

The district administration of Shivamogga in Karnataka has taken a proactive step to maintain law and order by imposing Section 144 in the Ragi Gudda area of the town. This decision comes in the wake of a recent clash between two communities that resulted in a stone-pelting incident in Bengaluru. The clash, which occurred during an Eid Milad procession, left five people injured, prompting authorities to take swift action to prevent further unrest.

The Stone-Pelting Incident

According to media reports, the trouble began when a group of miscreants pelted stones at houses and vehicles, fueled by rumors related to the earlier stone-pelting incident during the Eid Milad procession. To quell the situation, the Shivamogga Police had to resort to a lathi charge to disperse the crowd on Sunday evening. In response to these events, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been enforced as a precautionary measure to curb any potential clashes in the area.

Maintaining Control

Shivamogga SP Mithun Kumar, speaking to news agency ANI, provided an update on the situation. He stated, “There was a stone-pelting incident in Ragigudda last evening. However, we managed to disperse the crowd, and the situation is under control now. Around four to five people sustained minor injuries. Section 144 is in force in Ragi Gudda to prevent any untoward incident.” The police have also issued a stern warning against the spread of unverified information on social media platforms and pledged to take legal action against those who circulate false rumors.

Devotees’ Response

As the stones were hurled during the procession, devotees reportedly scattered in different directions, resulting in minor injuries. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining peace and communal harmony, especially during religious gatherings and processions.

In conclusion, the enforcement of Section 144 in Shivamogga reflects the authorities’ commitment to maintaining law and order in the wake of the recent stone-pelting incident in Bengaluru. By taking these precautionary measures, the administration aims to prevent any further clashes and ensure the safety of the local community.
