Rising Concerns: India Registers 148 Fresh COVID-19 Infections in One Day

India has witnessed a concerning rise in COVID-19 cases, with 148 new infections reported in a single day, according to the latest data updated on December 9 by the Union Health Ministry. The surge has pushed the number of active cases to 808, prompting health authorities to closely monitor the situation.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country now stands at 4.50 crore (4,50,02,889), with the death toll reaching 5,33,306. On a positive note, the data also reveals that 4,44,68,775 individuals have successfully recovered from the illness, bringing the country’s recovery rate to an impressive 98.81%.

India has been actively pursuing its vaccination campaign, with a total of 220.67 crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered to positive patients, as per the Union Health Ministry’s records.

Addressing the situation, the then-state health minister, Dr. Tanaji Sawant, emphasized the need to ramp up COVID-19 testing. He urged the state health department to address any issues identified during recent mock drills and called upon the public to adhere to safety protocols, including wearing masks. The state government is taking proactive measures to ensure that the ten districts identified as high-risk are well-prepared to combat the virus.

As the nation grapples with this recent uptick in cases, authorities are working diligently to contain the spread and maintain the progress made in controlling the pandemic.
