Revolutionizing Traffic Management: Bengaluru to Implement 51 Adaptive Signals for Enhanced Efficiency

51 new adaptive signals to be installed in Bengaluru. Know more here.

Bangalore, Karnataka: Bengaluru, known for its bustling traffic, is set to undergo a significant transformation in traffic management with the installation of 51 new adaptive signals. This initiative, part of the Bengaluru City Road Safety and Traffic Management Project, aims to revolutionize the city’s traffic flow through state-of-the-art technology.

Advancing Traffic Control:

The Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) has taken the lead in this endeavor, with plans to install adaptive signals strategically across 50 locations in various traffic divisions. This innovative move is a proactive step towards addressing the ever-growing challenges of traffic congestion in the city.

Key Features of Adaptive Signals:

Beyond their automated capabilities, these adaptive signals come equipped with advanced features, including real-time adjustments based on traffic volume. Managed individually or as part of a group, these signals offer a dynamic approach to traffic flow optimization.

Real-time Traffic Optimization:

The adaptive signals are not just automated; they have the intelligence to adjust signal times based on the real-time volume of traffic. The central traffic control center will have the capability to manage these signals individually or collectively, ensuring a responsive and efficient traffic management system.

Crowdsourced Data Integration:

To enhance responsiveness to real-world traffic dynamics, the adaptive signal controllers are designed to utilize crowdsourced data for optimizing traffic light timings. This integration adds a layer of adaptability, ensuring that the signals respond effectively to varying traffic conditions.

Manual Control Flexibility:

An added feature is the manual control option through remote devices, allowing for flexibility in managing traffic signals. This feature ensures that traffic control remains adaptable to specific situations, even in automated systems.

Priority for Emergency Vehicles:

The proposed system goes a step further by prioritizing designated emergency vehicles equipped with GPS devices. This facilitates the creation of green corridors, ensuring swift passage for ambulances during emergencies.

Strategic Signal Placements:

The tender outlines key junctions for signal placements, including New Light Junction, New Horizon College backside, A Krishnappa Junction, Channasandra Junction, Seegehalli Junction, Kodathi Junction, Siddappa Reddy Junction, War Memorial Junction, Chandrika Junction, Kalyan Nagar Junction, Hennur Junction, Nice Road Junction, among others.

Proactive Approach to Traffic Management:

This initiative aligns with the 2022 proposal by Bengaluru Traffic Police to deploy adaptive signals at 50 locations. It reflects a proactive approach by the authorities to enhance traffic efficiency and safety in one of India’s busiest cities.
