Rescue Mission: Air India Evacuates Stranded Crew from Israel’s Unrest

In a swift response to the escalating turmoil in Israel, Air India has successfully evacuated its crew members and employees from Tel Aviv. The recent deadly terror attacks in the region prompted the cancellation of Air India’s October 7 Delhi-Tel Aviv flight, leaving ten crew members stranded in Israel. In a mission prioritizing their safety, the airline orchestrated their safe return to India via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

A Focus on Passenger and Employee Safety: Air India’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its passengers and employees has been at the forefront of its operations. Given the volatile situation in Israel, the airline made the prudent decision to cancel the October 7 flight to Tel Aviv, which was intended for the return journey. Consequently, the crew members who had arrived in Israel to operate the return flight faced an uncertain predicament.

A Coordinated Evacuation Effort: On Sunday, Air India executed a meticulously planned evacuation operation, ensuring the safe departure of the ten crew members, including pilots and cabin crew, from Tel Aviv. Accompanying them were station and airport managers who played a vital role in the operation’s success. These individuals embarked on a flight to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where they will subsequently board a connecting flight back to India.

Flight Cancellations and Passenger Support: In light of the ongoing security concerns in Israel, Air India has extended the suspension of its flights to and from Tel Aviv until October 14, 2023. This decision aligns with the airline’s unwavering commitment to the safety of passengers and crew. Air India has also expressed its dedication to providing support to passengers who had confirmed bookings on flights during this period.

Impact on EL AL Flights: The recent developments in Israel have also raised questions about the plans of Israeli airline EL AL. EL AL had previously announced its intention to resume India flights in October, marking a return after a three-year pandemic hiatus. The revised route was set to be more efficient, thanks to the allowance of overflying Saudi Arabia and Oman. However, the evolving situation may prompt reconsideration of these plans.
