Rainfall Alert: Western Disturbance to Impact North India, IMD Issues Warning

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for parts of North India, including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, as a western disturbance is set to bring light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The alert spans from March 1 to March 3, with the intensity peaking on the first two days of March 2024.

IMD’s Weather Bulletin Highlights: The IMD predicts an intense spell of rainfall and snowfall over the Western Himalayan region starting from February 29, with the effects extending to the plains of northwest India from March 1 to 3. The bulletin specifically mentions the peak intensity on March 1 and 2, urging residents to stay informed about changing weather conditions.

Hailstorm and Additional Alerts: In addition to rainfall, isolated hailstorms are expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on March 1 and 2, Rajasthan on March 1, and in Haryana-Chandigarh, Punjab, and West Uttar Pradesh on March 2. Isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall are also anticipated in hilly regions, particularly in Uttarakhand on March 1.

Specific Warnings and Advisory: The weather department has issued warnings considering recent rainfall activities in Uttarakhand and other isolated areas in the northern region of India. An orange alert has been issued for the Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh region, where isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall are expected on March 1, followed by very heavy rainfall and snowfall on March 2.

Safety Precautions: IMD advisory has cautioned people in snow-bound areas of Jammu and Kashmir to avoid venturing into sloppy and avalanche-prone areas. The advisory also warns of potential landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas.

As the weather situation evolves, residents and authorities are encouraged to stay updated on official alerts and take necessary precautions.
