Railway Authorities Announce Removal of 20 km Limitation on UTS Mobile App

In a move aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and streamlining ticketing processes, railway authorities have taken a significant step by removing the 20-kilometre limit for booking tickets via the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) smartphone app.

Previously, passengers using the UTS mobile app were restricted to booking tickets only if they were within a 20-kilometre radius of the designated railway station where their journey would commence. However, following a recent review of the UTS ticketing system, officials have decided to eliminate this constraint, allowing travellers to purchase tickets in advance from any location.

This decision, announced by railway authorities on Thursday, marks a significant development that will benefit countless passengers traversing various sections of the railway network. By lifting the 20-kilometre limitation, passengers now have the freedom to plan and secure their train tickets well in advance, thereby mitigating the risk of missing their scheduled trains and saving valuable time.

The Eastern Railway (ER) authorities, in a statement released following the announcement, highlighted the importance of this change in facilitating easier travel for passengers in general class trains. Previously, the UTS mobile app restricted ticket bookings to within a 20-kilometre radius of the station, but with this limitation now removed, passengers can conveniently obtain tickets to their desired destinations from anywhere.

It’s important to note, however, that while passengers can now purchase tickets online without the 20 km restriction, the ability to book tickets using the UTS Mobile app remains unavailable to those who are already on the platform or travelling inside a train.

Indian Railways, which caters to thousands of passengers daily in general coaches, has recognized the need to adapt to evolving technologies to enhance passenger experience. With the latest updates to the UTS mobile app, passengers can now enjoy a more seamless ticketing process, eliminating the need for physical presence at the station within the 20-kilometre radius.

The UTS smartphone app revolutionizes ticket purchasing for travellers by allowing them to buy unreserved tickets without being constrained by distance limitations. This latest feature empowers passengers to procure general tickets from any location, significantly simplifying the booking process.

Previously, the UTS mobile app restricted ticket bookings to individuals within a 20-kilometre radius of the station platform. However, with the removal of this limitation, passengers can now conveniently purchase general tickets online from anywhere, offering unprecedented flexibility and convenience.

By leveraging the UTS mobile app, travellers can generate paperless tickets, including general tickets, platform tickets, and season tickets, directly on their mobile devices. This not only saves time but also contributes to paper conservation efforts, aligning with sustainable practices and environmental preservation initiatives.
