PM Modi Inaugurates World’s First ‘Vedic Clock’ in Ujjain, Rediscovering Ancient Timekeeping

Ujjain : In a significant cultural and technological milestone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate the world’s first ‘Vedic Clock’ today in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Positioned on an 85-foot tower within Ujjain’s Jantar Mantar area, the ‘Vikramaditya Vedic Clock’ is designed to display time according to the ancient Indian traditional Panchang (time calculation system).

Features of Vedic Clock:

  1. Traditional Panchang Display: The ‘Vedic Clock’ will showcase information related to Vedic Hindu Panchang, including planetary positions, Muhurat (auspicious timings), astrological calculations, and predictions.
  2. Dual Time Zones: The clock will indicate both Indian Standard Time (IST) and Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), providing a bridge between ancient and global timekeeping standards.
  3. Comprehensive Astrological Information: In addition to time, the clock will display details such as Samvat (Hindu calendar era), Mas (Hindu month), moon position, Parva (festivals), Shubhshubh Muhurat (favorable and unfavorable timings), Ghati (time measurement), Nakshatra (lunar mansion), solar and lunar eclipses, among other astrological insights.
  4. Sunrise-to-Sunrise Time Calculation: The Vedic Clock will calculate time based on one sunrise to the next, aligning with the traditional Indian method of timekeeping.
  5. Revival of Ancient Timekeeping: The clock aims to revive the ancient Indian system of time calculation, emphasizing its status as the oldest, subtle, pure, error-free, authentic, and reliable method globally.

A statement released in anticipation of the inauguration highlighted the significance of Ujjain in transmitting time prescriptions worldwide. The Vedic Clock serves as a homage to the rich heritage of Indian astronomical theories and planetary constellation motions.

“The Indian system of time calculation is the oldest, subtle, pure, error-free, authentic, and reliable method in the world. This most reliable system is being re-established in the form of Vikramaditya Vedic Clock in Ujjain,” the release stated.

It emphasized that Ujjain has been a historical center for global timekeeping traditions, and the Vedic Clock is a dedicated effort to restore the tradition of Indian time calculation.
