PM Modi Highlights Strong Cooperation Between India and France in Interview

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in an interview with French newspaper Les Echos, emphasized the strong cooperation between India and France and highlighted India’s role as a bridge between the ‘Global South’ and the Western world. Before departing for France, PM Modi discussed the 25-year strategic partnership between the two nations and expressed his vision of “SAGAR” (Security and Growth for All in the Region) for India and France.

As the Guest of Honour alongside President Emmanuel Macron, PM Modi traveled to France to participate in the Bastille Day celebrations in Paris. In the interview, he described the partnership between India and France as a turning point, particularly considering the post-pandemic global order and the progress made through their strategic alliance. PM Modi emphasized the importance of working on a roadmap for the next 25 years of the partnership, highlighting the strength, trust, consistency, resilience, and ambition that have characterized their relationship.

PM Modi envisioned India as a strong supporter of the Global South, playing a pivotal role in propelling it forward and establishing linkages with the Global North. He emphasized the need to strengthen this support and bridge the gap between the North and South, fostering stronger connections and empowering the Global South.

Regarding the challenges in the Indo-Pacific region, the Prime Minister highlighted India and France’s extensive interests and deep engagement. He outlined their shared vision for the region, focusing on “SAGAR” which emphasizes security and growth for all, peaceful resolution of differences, respect for sovereignty, adherence to international law, and a rules-based international order.

In his farewell declaration, PM Modi expressed his confidence that his trip to France would further invigorate the mutual strategic alliance. He eagerly anticipated extensive discussions with President Macron to strengthen their enduring relationship over the next 25 years. Additionally, he looked forward to engaging with French leaders, including Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, Senate President Gerard Larcher, and National Assembly President Yael Braun-Pivet.

During his visit, PM Modi anticipated meeting the vibrant Indian community, prominent CEOs from both countries, and notable French personalities. He expressed his belief that the visit would energize and deepen their strategic partnership.
