Over 6 Crore Income Tax Returns Filed Ahead of Deadline, No Extension Planned

With the deadline for filing income tax returns (ITRs) for the salaried class quickly approaching, the Income Tax department has announced an overwhelming response from taxpayers. More than six crore ITRs have been filed until July 30, indicating a significant number of individuals fulfilling their tax obligations.

In a recent tweet, the Income Tax department revealed that as of July 30, a total of 6.13 crore ITRs have been successfully filed. The momentum continued on the last day for salaried employees to file their returns, with 11.03 lakh ITRs being filed until 12 noon on July 31. An impressive 3.39 lakh ITRs were submitted in the last hour leading up to the deadline.

It’s worth noting that July 31, 2023, serves as the last date for salaried employees to file their ITRs, while professionals have an extended deadline until December 31, 2023, to fulfill their tax obligations.

Amidst speculations regarding a possible extension of the filing deadline, the government has confirmed that there are no plans to do so at this point in time. As a result, taxpayers are urged to take responsibility and ensure they meet the deadline for ITR submissions promptly.

The substantial number of ITR filings witnessed ahead of the deadline is a testament to the commitment of taxpayers in fulfilling their tax responsibilities diligently. The Income Tax department continues to support and encourage taxpayers to meet the deadline and comply with tax regulations.

For eligible taxpayers who have yet to file their ITRs, it is strongly advised to take advantage of the remaining hours on July 31, 2023, to submit their returns promptly. Doing so will help them avoid any penalties or inconveniences that may arise from missing the deadline. By meeting the deadline, taxpayers demonstrate their compliance with tax laws and contribute to the nation’s revenue collection efforts
