One Card, Many Journeys: NCMC Expansion in Delhi’s Bus Network

New Delhi Expanding National Common Mobility Card to Buses

New Delhi, the bustling capital of India, is gearing up to introduce the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) on its extensive bus network by December. Already in use within the city’s metro system, this move is part of an effort by the Delhi government to make public transportation even more accessible and convenient for its residents.

Delhi’s NCMC Expansion Plans

The Transport Department of the Delhi Government is actively preparing for the implementation of NCMC in buses, with the ambitious goal of launching the facility by the end of this year. Once rolled out, passengers traveling on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses will have the ease of paying their fares using the National Common Mobility Card. This will cover a substantial fleet of 7135 buses operated by the Delhi Government.

Simplified Payment Process

The NCMC payment system will revolutionize the way passengers pay for their journeys. Commuters will be able to swipe their NCMC cards through the Electronic Ticketing Machine (ETM) carried by the bus conductors. These NCMC cards will be readily available for purchase at metro stations, ISBT, and information centers managed by Delhi Tourism Corporation.

Enhancing Commuter Experience

It’s estimated that over 4 million people rely on Delhi government buses daily, with more than 25 lakh (2.5 million) purchasing tickets regularly. With the introduction of the National Common Mobility Card in buses, the ticketing process will be streamlined, eliminating the need for separate tickets for metro and bus travel in the capital. This integration aims to enhance the overall commuter experience.

Future Expansion

After the successful implementation of NCMC in buses, the Delhi government has ambitious plans to extend the card’s usability to other modes of public transport, including autos and taxis. This visionary step aims to provide a seamless and unified payment solution for commuters across various modes of transportation in the city.

As New Delhi marches toward a more integrated and commuter-friendly transportation system, the National Common Mobility Card is set to play a pivotal role in simplifying travel and making it more accessible to all.
