New Traffic Challan System: Automatic Penalties for Vehicles Without Valid PUC at Petrol Pumps

In a bid to strengthen enforcement of traffic regulations and combat vehicular pollution, a new automated system has been introduced to penalize vehicles lacking a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, even at petrol pumps. This initiative aims to promote compliance with pollution regulations and enhance road safety by holding offenders accountable for proper certification.

Up to Rs 10,000 Penalty: Under the new system, vehicles found without a valid pollution certificate could face penalties of up to ₹10,000. The fine for not possessing a pollution certificate is set at ₹10,000, highlighting the seriousness of the offense. Despite the certificate’s significance in curbing vehicular emissions, many drivers often overlook the renewal process, leading to increased pollution levels on the roads.

Beware at Petrol Pumps: Sophisticated cameras installed at petrol pumps will track vehicle registration numbers and monitor compliance with pollution regulations. All vehicles, irrespective of their fuel type, will be subject to scrutiny, ensuring comprehensive enforcement. The system will automatically verify the pollution certificate status of each vehicle, flagging offenders for immediate action. Drivers will receive fines directly to their mobile phones if their certificate has expired, facilitating swift enforcement and accountability.

Time to Renew for Drivers: To promote timely compliance, drivers will receive notifications prompting them to renew their certificates by the next day or evening. A brief window will be provided for drivers to update their pollution certifications, emphasizing the importance of proactive adherence to regulations. Failure to renew on time will result in a ₹10,000 fine sent directly to the driver’s phone, incentivizing prompt action and compliance.

Promoting Compliance with Pollution Regulations: This automated system represents a significant step towards effective enforcement of pollution rules, providing a warning period before imposing fines. By encouraging drivers to maintain cleaner vehicles and adhere to pollution regulations, the initiative contributes to safer roads and healthier environments. Through proactive monitoring and enforcement, the system underscores the importance of collective responsibility in mitigating vehicular emissions and fostering sustainable transportation practices.
