New Look, New Vigilance: Parliament Security Debuts Camouflage Uniforms

Security Personnel Debut New Uniforms on Day 2 of Parliament’s Special Session

Security personnel at the Parliament House in New Delhi made a striking debut on the second day of the ongoing special session by donning new uniforms. The Parliament Security Service (Operations) officers, responsible for safeguarding the parliamentary premises, have traded their blue safari suits for army camouflage fatigues, ushering in a fresh look and functionality to their attire.

The makeover extends beyond the security staff as those engaged in legislative duties have been assigned distinct cream jackets, cream shirts adorned with a pink lotus motif, and khaki trousers. This uniform transition is a part of a comprehensive overhaul, and the new attire aims to offer both comfort and an element of tradition, as symbolized by the lotus.

The design for these uniforms has been meticulously crafted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), ensuring that the new attire is gender-neutral and maintains the dignity of the parliamentary workforce.

This sartorial transformation marks a noteworthy development in the operations and aesthetics of the Parliament Security Service. All 271 staff members, including chamber attendants and personnel deployed for verbatim reporting services, have now embraced this contemporary uniform.

In a parallel event, members of both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha congregated in the inner courtyard of the historic Parliament House for a collective photograph. This joint photographic session was followed by separate group photographs for the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha members, preserving the tradition of commemorating parliamentary gatherings.

Eminent leaders graced the occasion, with dignitaries like the Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and former Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and HD Deve Gowda occupying the front row.

Post the ceremonial activities in the Central Hall of the old Parliament building, proceedings are slated to transition to the newly constructed Parliament edifice. The Lok Sabha is scheduled to convene at the new facility at 1.15 pm, with the Rajya Sabha commencing its deliberations in its newly appointed chamber at 2.15 pm.
