Navigating Through the Fog: Jyotiraditya Scindia’s 6-Point Action Plan to Tackle Flight Disruptions

New Delhi, India’s Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, has unveiled a robust six-point action plan to tackle the pervasive disruptions caused by fog during domestic and international flights. The plan aims to alleviate passenger inconvenience, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure the smooth functioning of airports nationwide.

Key Components of the Six-Point Action Plan:

  1. Setting up ‘War Rooms’: Dedicated operational centers to swiftly address passenger inconvenience and streamline operations at airports across all six metros.
  2. Enhanced CISF Manpower: Round-the-clock deployment of sufficient Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel to ensure airport security and operational continuity.
  3. Implementation of DGCA Directives: Strict adherence to directives issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  4. Daily Reports: Receipt of daily reports from all six metro airports, providing insights into the implementation of DGCA directives and the ongoing operational situation.
  5. Operational Readiness at Delhi Airport: Upgradation of CAT III operational status for Runway 29L at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, allowing for take-offs and departures during dense fog. Runway 10/28 with CAT III status will become operational soon.
  6. Communication Improvement: Issuing SOPs to all airlines aimed at enhancing communication and passenger facilitation, improving overall responsiveness during challenging weather conditions.

Response to Recent Chaos:

Aviation Minister Scindia addressed recent incidents of passenger dissatisfaction due to poor communication and scheduling delays attributed to adverse weather conditions. He acknowledged the unprecedented fog in Delhi, appealing for patience as the ministry actively addresses ongoing challenges.

Strict Stance Against Violence:

Condemning recent acts of violence, particularly the assault on a captain during a Delhi-Goa IndiGo flight, Scindia emphasized the ministry’s commitment to passenger safety. He hinted at potential inclusion of the passenger responsible in the ‘no-fly list.’

The six-point action plan reflects a proactive approach to address the challenges posed by fog-related disruptions in the aviation sector. With a focus on communication improvement, operational readiness, and strict adherence to safety protocols, the plan aims to minimize passenger inconvenience and ensure a more seamless travel experience during adverse weather conditions.
