National Campaign Sparks Wave of Piped Natural Gas Adoption Across India

In a concerted effort to promote clean energy and advance the vision of a “Gas-Based Economy” in India, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) and City Gas Distribution entities have launched a nationwide campaign from January 26 to March 31, 2024. The campaign aims to encourage households across diverse segments to adopt Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as a sustainable and eco-friendly energy source.

Campaign Highlights:

  • The initiative focuses on areas with existing or planned gas pipeline networks.
  • A key objective is to align with the Prime Minister’s vision to increase the share of natural gas in India’s energy mix to 15% by 2030.
  • PNGRB initiatives encompass promoting natural gas in households, transport, commercial, and industrial sectors.
  • The National PNG Drive ensures a seamless supply of natural gas, aiming to enroll new customers for PNG connections.

Participation of City Gas Distribution Entities:

  • CGD entities actively contribute to the campaign, conducting promotional activities to raise awareness about the benefits of PNG.
  • Promotional schemes, door-to-door campaigns, and road shows are planned to encourage customer enrollment for PNG conversion.

Targets and Achievements:

  • The campaign aligns with ambitious targets set until 2032, including 12.5 Crore domestic PNG connections and 17,751 CNG stations.
  • As of November 30, 2023, 1.2 Crore domestic PNG connections and 6,159 CNG stations have been established.

Collaborative Efforts and Stakeholder Involvement:

  • The National PNG Drive calls for cooperation from all stakeholders, state governments, and local bodies.
  • The objective is to promote sustainable and clean energy solutions, fostering a nationwide transition towards a cleaner future.

As the campaign gains momentum, it heralds a significant step toward achieving a cleaner, more sustainable energy landscape for India.
