In a significant move to enhance connectivity and socio-economic development in Arunachal Pradesh, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved an allocation of Rs 6,728.33 crore for the construction of eight segments of the NH-913, also known as the Frontier Highway. The decision was announced on Thursday, February 29, with a focus on improving infrastructure in border areas.
The approved segments, covering a total distance of 305.50 km, will be developed as Intermediate Lane Roads using the Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) mode, as outlined in an official statement.
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, underscored the importance of this development, stating that it would not only enhance connectivity to border regions but also play a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the state. Gadkari particularly emphasized the anticipated impact on reverse habitation, discouraging migration and encouraging settlement in the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
Gadkari highlighted the strategic significance of the Frontier Highway segments in establishing essential road infrastructure, connecting major river basins, and facilitating the development of multiple hydropower projects in the state. He pointed out that this greenfield route would link sparsely populated Upper Arunachal areas, unlocking their tourism potential and projecting increased traffic due to the growing industry.
In a related update, Gadkari revealed that Rs 3,549.48 crore had been sanctioned for the construction and strengthening of various National Highways projects in Madhya Pradesh, affirming the government’s ongoing commitment to advancing the nation’s transportation network.
