In a frosty turn of events, the temperature in Kashmir has plunged below zero, casting a wintry spell over the picturesque region. The cold wave has intensified in various parts of the valley, with notable drops in temperature reported across key locations.
Gulmarg, nestled in the Baramulla district, recorded a bone-chilling -2.2 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund witnessed a dip from -1.6 degrees Celsius the previous night to a chilly -2 degrees Celsius. The snow-laden mountains, trees, and barren branches covered in a blanket of white have mesmerized onlookers from different corners of the country.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, experienced a low of minus 2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, surpassing the previous night’s temperature of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius. The cold snap has transformed the region into a winter wonderland, attracting both locals and tourists alike.
On Tuesday night, Pahalgam, the starting point for the annual Amarnath yatra, in the Anantnag district, recorded a substantial temperature drop to minus 5.1 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest area in the Valley. Kokernag in south Kashmir registered a minimum temperature of -0.5 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara observed a low of -2.7 degrees Celsius.

According to the meteorological office, the weather forecast predicts partial to generally cloudy conditions, with predominantly dry weather prevailing until December 10. A slight decrease in the night temperature is anticipated, maintaining the wintry ambiance in Kashmir.
