Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh Adjust School Timings for Ramadan 2024; Here’s What You Need to Know

In anticipation of the holy month of Ramadan, educational authorities in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have announced special adjustments to school timings for Urdu and other minority language schools. These modifications aim to enable students to observe Ramadan while continuing their academic pursuits without disruption.

The Directorate of Urdu and Other Minority Language Schools in Karnataka issued a circular outlining the revised timings for Urdu primary and high schools. During Ramadan, which is expected to commence in April, schools will operate from 8:00 am to 12:45 pm. This decision aligns with previous directives aimed at facilitating students’ religious practices while ensuring their educational continuity.

Following Karnataka’s lead, the Andhra Pradesh School Education Department has also introduced similar adjustments for Urdu medium schools. From March 12th to April 10th, schools will function from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm to accommodate the Ramadan period. This decision comes in response to representations from the Minority Teachers Association, underscoring the importance of considering students’ religious observances.

These modifications reflect a considerate approach by educational authorities to support students from diverse religious backgrounds. By facilitating religious practices during school hours, authorities uphold students’ rights to observe their faith while pursuing their studies.

Ramadan, a sacred month of fasting observed by Muslims worldwide, holds profound significance for believers. These adjustments in school timings demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity and accommodation within the educational system, ensuring that students can observe their religious obligations without compromising their academic commitments.

In Karnataka, the circular issued by the Directorate of Urdu and Other Minority Language Schools provides detailed instructions for implementing the adjusted timings across junior, senior, and high schools during Ramadan.

Similarly, in Andhra Pradesh, the School Education Department has modified timings for Urdu medium primary, upper primary, and high schools, as well as parallel sections and Urdu Medium DIETS across the state. These changes, effective from March 12th to April 10th
