IndiGo Airlines has found itself at the center of controversy after a viral post by a passenger highlighted the issue of family members being assigned separate seats on a flight.
Akshay Baheti took to social media to express his disappointment after he and his family, including young children, were allocated separate seats on a flight from Chennai to Mumbai. Baheti’s post shed light on the challenges faced by families when seated apart and questioned the airline’s seating policy, particularly concerning young children.
In response to the outcry, IndiGo Airlines clarified that their intention was never to separate families traveling together. However, they attributed Baheti’s seating allocation to the airport check-in process, where seats are assigned based on availability. The airline emphasized the importance of pre-booking preferred seats online to ensure families can sit together during their flight.
IndiGo’s explanation drew criticism from some customers who argued that airlines should have systems in place to ensure families with young children are seated together at the time of booking. They expressed frustration with the inconvenience caused and called for better solutions to address such situations.
In subsequent posts, Baheti clarified certain aspects and emphasized the importance of basic human decency in accommodating families during flights. He suggested alternative methods for immediate seat allocation to prevent such incidents in the future.
