Union Transport Minister Announces End of Toll Booths, Embraces Futuristic Payment Method
In a landmark announcement, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has declared the imminent abolition of toll booths across India, ushering in a new era of satellite-based toll collection. The revolutionary system, set to transform the country’s transportation landscape, will deduct toll fees directly from bank accounts based on the distance traveled by vehicles.
Gadkari’s unveiling of the satellite-based toll collection system marks a significant leap forward in India’s infrastructure development efforts. Speaking to the news agency, he outlined the numerous benefits of the new system, including enhanced efficiency, reduced travel time, and elimination of toll booth delays.
Highlighting the success of government initiatives in improving infrastructure, Gadkari cited the remarkable reduction in travel time between Mumbai and Pune, from nine hours to just two hours. He attributed this achievement to the government’s commitment to building world-class highways and implementing innovative solutions like satellite-based toll collection.
Responding to concerns regarding high toll taxes, Gadkari defended the necessity of tolls, emphasizing their role in financing infrastructure projects and promoting economic growth. He underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in funding road networks while ensuring accountability and transparency in toll collection processes.
Gadkari also discussed the Bharatmala Pariyojana, a transformative initiative aimed at developing economic corridors spanning 26,000 kilometers across the country.
