The 508 km double-line track connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad is set to significantly reduce travel time to a mere 2.07 hours, thanks to its impressive maximum design speed of 350 km per hour. The project’s estimated cost of Rs 1,08,000 crore is anticipated to be funded by a Japanese soft loan at a remarkable interest rate of 0.1 per cent, with a repayment period of 50 years, including a 15-year grace period, covering 81 per cent of the total project cost.

Introduced in 2017 during a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the project is being executed under the guidance of Shinkansen Technology, known for its reliability and safety over 50 years. With a substantial portion already completed, the initial phase of the project is expected to be operational by 2026, with the entire project scheduled for completion by 2028.
