Indian Railway Rules Ensure Full Refund For Delayed or Cancelled Trains; Know Details

As winter envelops North India in dense fog, affecting rail and flight operations, passengers often face delays and cancellations during these chilly months. However, Indian Railways provides certain provisions for passengers facing long delays or cancellations, ensuring a full refund under specific conditions. Here’s a closer look at the rules and procedures set by Indian Railways for claiming Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) in such situations.

Full Refund Criteria for Delayed or Cancelled Trains

Passengers are eligible for a refund if their train is delayed by more than three hours. It’s important to note that in the case of confirmed Tatkal Tickets, no refund is provided upon cancellation. If a train is delayed by more than three hours, passengers who choose not to travel can claim a refund for the entire amount. To initiate this process, passengers need to file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR).

How to File TDR for Refund

  1. Visit the Official Website: Access the Indian Railways’ official website, IRCTC.
  2. Login to IRCTC: After logging in, navigate to the ‘Services’ tab.
  3. File Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR): Select ‘File Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR)’ from the menu.
  4. Access ‘My Transactions’: Go to ‘My Transactions’ and click on ‘File TDR.’
  5. Claim Request Submission: The claim request is then sent to Indian Railways.
  6. Refund Process: Once accepted, the refund amount is credited to the same bank account used for ticket booking.

Passengers can also opt to surrender their tickets at the railway stations’ ticket counters, where they will receive a full refund. However, it’s important to note that the complete refund process may take approximately 90 days.

As dense fog continues to grip Delhi, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts, predicting minimal respite from the cold wave and the possibility of continued dense fog for the next two to four days.
