India Aims for New Heights in Civil Aviation: Targets 300 Million Domestic Passengers by 2030

In a bold vision for the future of Indian civil aviation, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced India’s goal to achieve 300 million domestic air passengers by 2030. The announcement came at the inauguration of ‘Wings India 2024,’ Asia’s largest civil aviation event, hosted at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad. The four-day event is dedicated to shaping the trajectory of the Indian aviation industry.

Highlighting India’s remarkable growth in the aviation sector, Scindia projected the nation to become the world’s drone hub. As part of a government-sponsored initiative, he unveiled plans to train 10,000 women as drone pilots, showcasing India’s commitment to embracing cutting-edge technologies.

Scindia, acknowledging India’s current standing in the global aviation market, stated, “India is the 7th largest civil aviation market globally, and when considering both domestic and international passengers, we rank as the 5th largest.”

The event, organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India, and FICCI, revolves around the theme ‘Wings India 2024: Laying the Groundwork for Indian Civil Aviation by 2047 in Amrit Kamal: Linking India to the World.’

Scindia underlined the significant strides India has made in civil aviation over the past 75 years, from Amrit Kaal to Shatabdi Kaal, emphasizing new records, rapid development, and international prominence.

Highlighting the commitment to last-mile connectivity, Scindia mentioned the establishment of five new regional airlines, air taxis, etc., as part of UDAAN 5.3. He attributed the democratization of India’s civil aviation sector to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Gen (Dr) VK Singh (Retd.), echoed the sentiments, emphasizing the global significance of the civil aviation sector in contributing to both national and global GDP.
