IMD’s Rainfall Predictions: South and North West India Bracing for Showers

As we transition into the second half of October, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted rainfall in several regions of South and North West India until October 15. These forecasts indicate a dynamic weather pattern that is set to bring much-needed precipitation to various parts of the country.

Rainfall Predictions by IMD

IMD’s predictions for the upcoming days are as follows:

  • Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka, and Kerala: These regions are likely to experience light to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms today.
  • Punjab and North Haryana: On October 14 and 15, isolated areas in these states may witness light rainfall.
  • Kashmir-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand: From October 13 to 15, these areas can expect light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
  • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal: Today, this region is anticipated to receive light to moderate rainfall at numerous places.

Weather in Recent Days

In recent days, parts of Bengaluru witnessed severe waterlogging due to heavy rainfall. The IMD has indicated that light to moderate rain, accompanied by thundershowers, is likely in certain Bengaluru areas over the next 24 hours.

The Met department’s bulletin described the weather outlook for the next 48 hours, stating, “generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain/thundershowers, heavy at times, very likely towards evening/night.”

Additionally, the IMD highlighted the favorable conditions for the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from various regions, including parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Central Arabia Sea over the next 2-3 days.

This weather update is attributed to a cyclonic circulation over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal in the lower tropospheric levels. Furthermore, a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to affect the Western Himalayan Region and adjoining plains starting from October 13, 2023.

As residents and authorities monitor these weather forecasts, it’s essential to stay prepared for potential rainfall and its associated impacts, ensuring the safety and well-being of all affected areas.
