IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alerts Across Various Regions in India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of alerts regarding heavy rainfall in different parts of the country, urging residents to stay vigilant and prepared for potentially adverse weather conditions.

Central India is expected to witness light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall along with isolated thunderstorms and lightning over the next two days, as per the IMD’s predictions.

Uttarakhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim, and Bihar have been singled out for extremely heavy rains on August 23rd and 24th. Additionally, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted for Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Northern parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim & Northeast India over the next 2-3 days, with a gradual decrease expected thereafter.

In the national capital, Delhi, the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) has issued forecasts of thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate-intensity rain and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 50 km/h. These conditions are expected to impact various areas in Delhi, the National Capital Region (NCR), Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in the coming hours.

The northwestern region of India, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh, are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall from August 22nd to 25th. Isolated very heavy rainfall is anticipated in northern Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from August 22nd to 24th. Furthermore, there is a prediction of isolated extremely heavy rainfall for Uttarakhand on August 23rd and 24th.

In East India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim is likely to witness isolated heavy rainfall over the next four days. Gangetic West Bengal is expected to experience heavy rainfall from August 23rd to 25th, while Odisha will likely see it from August 22nd to 25th. Jharkhand is on alert for heavy rainfall on August 23rd and 24th, and Bihar is expected to witness isolated heavy rainfall from August 22nd to 26th.

Moreover, isolated instances of very heavy rainfall are projected for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on August 24th and 25th, as well as Bihar on August 22nd and 25th. The possibility of isolated extremely heavy rainfall has been indicated for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim on August 22nd and 23rd, along with Bihar on August 23rd and 24th.

Northeast India is also expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall over the next four days, with the potential for isolated very heavy rainfall in Assam & Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh from August 22nd to 26th.
