Himachal Pradesh Battles Unrelenting Rainfall as Beas River Swells, Triggering Wide Disruptions

New Delhi, August 14, 2023: Continuous Rains and River Swelling Cause Havoc in the State

Himachal Pradesh is currently grappling with the persistent onslaught of heavy rainfall, leading to widespread disruption and chaos across the region. The swelling of the Beas River, driven by the incessant downpour, has exacerbated the situation, resulting in flooding and alarming water levels. In light of the ongoing crisis, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow’ alert, indicating the looming possibility of substantial rainfall in the state on the upcoming Monday.

The unrelenting rain has unleashed its fury on various parts of the state, triggering landslides, waterlogging, and road closures. The state government, in response to the hazardous conditions, has taken the critical decision to close down all schools and colleges. This measure is aimed at ensuring the safety of students, faculty, and staff members in the wake of the unpredictable weather conditions and potential threats posed by landslides.

As per the IMD’s predictions, the ominous weather pattern is not limited to Himachal Pradesh alone. The department has warned that several neighboring regions, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim, could also experience isolated episodes of heavy rainfall. This forecast underlines the widespread nature of the rainfall system, which could impact multiple areas in the northern and northeastern parts of the country.
