Heavy Rainfall Predicted for South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall in several regions. A fresh western disturbance is expected to influence the western Himalayan region from the night of October 13 and subsequently impact the plains of Northwest India starting from October 14.

According to the latest IMD weather bulletin, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala are anticipated to experience isolated heavy rainfall over the next two days, with a gradual reduction thereafter.

For specific regions and dates, the IMD provides the following details:

  • Kerala: Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by isolated heavy rainfall and potential thunderstorms with lightning, is expected until October 13.
  • Tamil Nadu: Isolated heavy rainfall is projected for October 12.
  • Jammu-Kashmir-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad: Light to moderate rainfall at various places, with the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall, is anticipated from October 13 to 17.
  • Himachal Pradesh and Punjab: Occasional light to moderate rainfall is foreseen during the period from October 14 to 17.

In addition, there is a possibility of light rainfall occurring in isolated places in Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan from October 15 to 17.

The IMD’s forecast also includes the expectation of rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura today, with a decrease in intensity afterward.

The Sub-Himalayan West Bengal region is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall over the next 24 hours, with a gradual reduction in rainfall. Meanwhile, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall at various places during the next five days.

Moreover, conditions are conducive for the further withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from several parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, and the Central Arabian Sea over the next two days.

The IMD’s report also mentions a cyclonic circulation located over Rayalaseema and adjacent South Interior Karnataka. Additionally, a trough extends from this cyclonic circulation to the Comorin area in the lower tropospheric levels.
