Heavy Rainfall in Delhi-NCR Disrupts Normal Life, IMD Issues Alerts

Delhi and Its Neighboring Regions Experience Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds

The Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) was drenched by heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds on a recent Saturday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously forecasted a generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle during the day.

The downpour was particularly pronounced in several parts of Delhi, including East Delhi, Shahdara, Northeast Delhi, and South Delhi. Meanwhile, Noida witnessed exceptionally heavy rainfall.

The Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) had issued warnings of thunderstorms with rain and strong winds in various locations across Delhi-NCR. Areas such as Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh, Sonipat, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Mattanhail, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Kosali, Sohana, Rewari, and Nuh in Haryana were among the regions cautioned about potential rainfall.

On the day of the heavy rainfall, the national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, which is three notches above the seasonal average, as reported by the India Meteorological Department.

According to the IMD’s forecast, the day was expected to remain generally overcast with the possibility of light rain or drizzle. The maximum temperature was anticipated to settle at 36 degrees Celsius. At 8:30 AM, the humidity level stood at 84 percent.

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was noted at 112 around noon. AQI values between zero and 50 are classified as ‘good’, 51 to 100 as ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 as ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 as ‘poor’, 301 to 400 as ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 as ‘severe’.

Rain Showers Bring Relief to Chandigarh and Nearby Areas

Simultaneously, rain showers brought relief to Chandigarh and its surrounding regions on Saturday morning, offering respite from the sultry weather conditions. Chandigarh, the Union territory, received 11.2 mm of rainfall, as reported by PTI, citing an official from the meteorological office.

The neighboring regions of Punjab’s Mohali and Haryana’s Panchkula also experienced rainfall during this time, further adding to the cooling effect of the downpour.
