Haryana Takes a Green Leap: Electric City Bus Service Launched in Panchkula and Karnal

Panchkula : In a significant move towards sustainable urban transport, Chief Minister Manohar Lal recently inaugurated the Electric City Bus service in Panchkula and Karnal. This initiative aims to enhance urban mobility, reduce the carbon footprint, and align with broader goals of environmental conservation and sustainable urban development.

As a goodwill gesture to the residents, Chief Minister Manohar Lal announced that the Electric City Bus service would be free for the first seven days of its operation. Following the initial period, the fare for the electric buses will be set at Rs 10 for the first 5 kilometers, with an incremental Rs 5 for every subsequent 3 kilometers.

Key Highlights of the New Electric Bus Service:

  1. Initial Rollout: The service commences with the introduction of five electric buses in both Panchkula and Karnal. Future plans include the expansion of this fleet to cater to growing demand.
  2. Fare Structure: The fare has been strategically set at Rs 10 for the initial 5 kilometers, offering an affordable and eco-friendly mode of transportation to citizens.
  3. Expansion Plans: The route for the city bus service will be determined based on public demand and necessity, with a systematic approach to extending the service to towns adjoining the cities.
  4. Fleet Enhancement: The state has already procured a total of 375 buses, significantly boosting public transportation infrastructure and accessibility.
  5. Previous Initiatives: This initiative builds upon the success of similar services launched in Panipat and Yamunanagar, reflecting the state’s commitment to enhancing public transport facilities.
  6. Future Prospects: In his budget address for 2023-2024, Chief Minister Manohar Lal announced plans to launch city bus services in nine municipal corporations and Rewari city. The roadways fleet has expanded, and there are intentions to introduce electric city bus services soon in Ambala, Sonipat, Rewari, Rohtak, and Hisar.

The introduction of the Electric City Bus service in Panchkula and Karnal signifies Haryana’s dedication to providing sustainable and eco-friendly urban mobility solutions.
