Haryana CM Announces Additional Central Forces Deployment As Nuh Violence Toll Reaches Six

New Delhi, August 2nd, 2023: Recent incidents of violence in Haryana’s Nuh have escalated tensions in the region, prompting swift action from the authorities. In response to the ongoing unrest and reports of arson in sector 70 of Gurugram’s Badshahpur, the Rapid Action Force (RAF) conducted a flag march early on Wednesday to restore peace. However, the situation remains tense in the National Capital Region.

Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, addressed the media in a press conference and emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order during these challenging times. He announced the requisition of four additional companies of central forces, augmenting the twenty already deployed in the state. Among the central forces, 14 companies are stationed in Nuh, three in Palwal, two in Gurugram, and one in Faridabad.

The Chief Minister reported that six people have tragically lost their lives in the riots, and the authorities have taken swift action by arresting 116 individuals, with 90 others being detained. Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the violence, and Khattar assured that no one involved will be spared from the consequences of their actions.

To provide assistance to the victims and those affected by the violence, the Chief Minister announced the launch of a scheme aimed at providing aid and support.

Khattar also mentioned that investigations are underway to determine the involvement of “outsiders” in the riots. He urged that politics should not interfere with the investigative process, emphasizing the need for a fair and impartial inquiry.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Rajasthan, section 144 has been imposed in ten blocks of Alwar district until August 10, following an incident of mob vandalism in Bhiwari. The Rajasthan administration has deployed security personnel in Bhilwara, a town on the Rajasthan-Haryana border, to prevent violence from spreading to other regions.

Nuh Deputy Commissioner Prashant Panwar has announced that the curfew in the district will be relaxed from 3 pm to 5 pm, with further actions based on the situation during those two hours. However, schools and colleges in the area will remain closed to ensure the safety of students and faculty.

The Supreme Court has expressed its hope and trust that the authorities will ensure that no hate speeches or property damage occur during the unrest. While the court has refused a blanket ban on protests and rallies, it has directed the police to monitor the situation using CCTVs and deploy heavy force to maintain law and order.

DGP Haryana PK Aggarwal reported that 20 companies of paramilitary forces have arrived from the Center, with 14 companies deployed in Nuh and approximately 28 companies of the state police deployed in different areas of Haryana to control the situation.

As the situation continues to unfold, various measures have been implemented to control the unrest. These include the suspension of internet and SMS services in Nuh and the banning of loose petrol or diesel sales in the Gurugram district. Additionally, officials are closely scrutinizing CCTV footage and call records to identify the rioters responsible for the violence.

The root cause of the violence in Nuh was a mob attempting to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession, leading to stone pelting and car fires, resulting in the tragic death of two home guards and injuries to several others, including policemen.

It is essential to note that the situation is subject to change, and it is crucial to follow official updates and guidance for the latest information on the matter. The authorities are working diligently to restore peace and ensure the safety of the public during this challenging time.
